Warwick Town Trail

The Warwick Town Trail is devised by Warwick Society and the Council.  I have no connection to either - but this is my description of the trail.

On arrival in Warwick go to the Tourist Information Office in Jury Street (Daily 9.30-16.30) and pick up a Warwick Town Trail Guide (approx 50p). The guide describes 21 places of interest. They are marked on the map and metal plaques are set into the pavement.
The Town Centre Trail (1-17) can be walked in 3/4 hour but with many places open to visitors and with plenty of cafes, pubs and restaurants on the way it will probably take much longer.

The map below is my own. It is only a rough guide and does not include the Warwick one-way system

1. The Court House
2. Thomas Oken's House - formerly the doll museum. Now Thomas Oken Tearooms.
3. Warwick Castle and Old Road - a day out in itself
4. Lord Leycester Hospital - pay admission or follow signs to eat in the stunning Brethren's Kitchen (cafe closed Monday except Bank Holiday, closed January).
5. Friend's Meeting House - has a friendly cafe with outdoor seating in the summer
6. Westgate & Chapel
7. Market Hall - free county museum with a scale model of Warwick before the Great Fire (1694). Closed Monday except Bank Holiday. Reduced hours in winter.
8. The Abbotsford
9. Barrack Street
10. Northgate House
11. Former County Gaol
12. Shire Hall
13. St Mary's Church - often open, climb the tower (small charge) to get a great view of the castle
14. The Athenaeum
15. The Tink-a-tank
16. Eastgate & Chapel
17. Landor House
18. St John's House - free county museum of Victorian life, toys and the Royal Warwick Regiment. Closed Monday except Bank Holiday. Reduced hours in winter.

20. Castle Bridge - one of the finest views in England
21. Bridge End

The Guy of Warwick statue on the Coventry Road ([G] on the map) is not part of the town trail, but you may pass it on your way into the town.

For more information and photos of Warwick see the Warwick and Warwick Castle Tourist Information Site and the Warwick Castle site.
See if your visit coincides with a race meeting at Warwick Racecourse .
